Almost never. Matting is usually settled infill letting the fibers fold over, and a power broom plus an infill top-off stands them back up. Fiber that stays flat after brooming is the rarer case, and the walk-through tells us which you have.
A good patch matches the pile height, color, and, critically, the grain direction of the surrounding turf. On most landscape products the repair line disappears once it's broomed and filled.
